There’s something sacred about those very first days. The hospital room hums with newness, exhaustion, fierce love—and the tiniest cries that somehow carry the biggest weight. I had the honor of capturing Charles Scott Wood’s Fresh 48 session at Washington Regional while he was still getting cozy in his bassinet… and oh, what a session it was.
Charles came into the world with a bit of a dramatic entrance. Due to blood sugar issues, he spent some time in the NICU—but don’t worry, this little fighter is already doing much better and making his presence known! He may be tiny, but he’s mighty—and clearly loved beyond measure.
His mama, Madilyn, is one of the sweetest and funniest humans I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. The kind of person who can make a hospital room feel warm and full of light, even on two hours of sleep. And Charles’s dad? A proud firefighter and already in full protector mode—completely smitten and standing guard over his new favorite person.
Though Charles had a few wires and monitors during our time together, you’d never know it by his expressions—his little personality shone through every moment. He was expressive, alert, and not afraid to make his voice heard (especially when his swaddle wasn’t just right). It was such a beautiful thing to witness both parents tag-teaming everything with so much grace and love.
From the tiny toes to the scrunchy newborn cries, to the way Madilyn looked at him like he was her entire world—this session was filled with the kind of fleeting magic that only happens in those first days.
Madilyn told me she wanted family photos, natural moments, and creative compositions—and she gave me full creative freedom (my favorite!). Their trust allowed me to document not just what the room looked like, but what it felt like. And that’s what Fresh 48 sessions are all about—capturing those raw, unfiltered first chapters before the rest of the world catches up.
