There’s something incredibly special about turning one—tiny toes that never stop moving, a personality that’s blossoming faster than you can blink, and parents soaking in every bit of this fleeting stage. That’s exactly the kind of magic Lucca brought to the studio for his first birthday milestone session!
Lucca’s mama reached out after being referred by one of my past clients (which always makes my heart so full), and from the moment she walked in, I could tell this was going to be a session full of joy. She is unbelievably kind, so warm, and clearly completely in love with her little boy—and he is just as smitten with her.
This session was an all-white dream milestone session: balloons scattered across the floor, a sweet little cake ready for smashing, and one very curious little guy who had absolutely zero interest in staying still. Lucca is the definition of a mover and groover! Everything was a game to him—whether it was crawling toward the balloons, showing off his infectious smile, or letting out a giggle when mom played peekaboo or made animal noises.
And that smile—it didn’t quit. Lucca lit up the entire space with his joy, his little hands constantly in motion, his tiny feet stomping with excitement. He loved every moment of his session… as long as mom was close by! He was so attached to her that we had a hard time sneaking in shots with dad alone, but honestly, that just speaks to the beautiful bond they share.
One of the sweetest parts of this session was hearing why Lucca’s mom wanted these portraits. She shared that they didn’t get newborn photos, and this session felt even more meaningful because of that. Capturing Lucca’s vibrant, curious personality at this milestone—when he’s still her baby but already growing so fast—was something she didn’t want to miss.
Sessions like this remind me exactly why I do what I do. These aren’t just portraits—they’re pieces of a story you’ll never want to forget.
