There are some sessions that just flow like magic- and sweet baby Winnie’s newborn session was one of those. Her mama had hired me for both maternity and newborn portraits, which meant she received one of my favorite gifts to give: a complimentary Fresh 48 session. (It’s just one of the ways I love to say thank you to my growing families!)

By the time they walked into the studio for Winnie’s newborn session, we had already captured some of her earliest hours in the hospital. But I was especially excited for this session because I couldn’t wait to photograph Winnie with her big sister, Bella.

Bella had been so sweet and attentive during their Fresh 48. The way she looked at her baby sister melted my heart, and I just had a feeling she’d rock her role during the sibling portraits. And guess what? She absolutely did. She was gentle, proud, and SO cooperative—every photographer’s dream toddler during a newborn session!

But let’s talk about Winnie… because this baby girl was a unicorn.

We initially planned on four individual setups of Winnie, plus sibling and family portraits. That’s usually more than enough for one session, but Winnie had other plans—she snoozed right through every pose, totally unbothered, happy, and relaxed. She made posing effortless, and because she was so content, we ended up with SIX setups just of her alone. My assistant even reminded me of a couple of poses I had mentioned before—ones I had held off on because they required the perfect baby. When she suggested we go for it, I lit up with excitement!

I had Mom choose her favorite prop, and from there, we added a couple of creative setups that truly made this session unforgettable. The hammock pose with the chunky knit blanket and blush lace was everything soft and delicate. The little wooden crate and floral wrapping added a cozy touch of whimsy. And then came my favorite—the mini iron bed next to the vase of baby’s breath. It felt like something straight out of a dream.

And if that wasn’t enough sweetness? The images of Winnie cuddled in her mama’s arms and the full family portraits gave me all the feels. The soft joy, the connection, the quiet love—it was all there. These are the moments families will cherish forever, and I feel so lucky to be the one to preserve them.

Sessions like Winnie’s are why I love what I do. It’s not just about the perfect lighting or the pretty props (though those help!). It’s about connection, trust, and creating an experience that makes families feel seen and celebrated.

Winnie’s session was more than just a set of photos—it was a celebration of new life, sibling love, and the joy of a growing family.

To the Amezquita family—thank you for trusting me again. Watching your family grow and getting to be part of capturing these milestones means the world to me.
