Sweet Willa is officially ONE, and what a joy it was to have her back in the studio for her milestone session! I’ve photographed Willa before, but this time she brought a whole new level of personality to the party. She was more interactive than ever, full of smiles, and completely rolled with the punches—including five outfit changes and a very dramatic cake tumble.
Willa’s session was a special one to photograph for so many reasons. First, it was gifted by her amazing aunt, who scooped up one of my Black Friday subscription deals—one full session and one mini session, both with all digital images. (Shoutout to thoughtful aunts who give the kind of gift that becomes a lifelong memory!) Instead of the traditional bath images that many families choose for first birthdays, Willa’s crew opted for five outfit changes, and I’ve got to say—she handled it like a champ. Not a single complaint, just chill vibes and those signature Willa smiles.
Her mom and aunt came in with a gorgeous vision and brought nearly the entire setup—props, outfits, accessories—you name it. Their theme was dreamy and feminine, with a focus on florals and a soft color palette. Originally they were leaning toward a fairy first birthday vibe, and ultimately went with lots of flowers, greenery, and hints of whimsy. They had ideas for days and trusted me to bring it all together with my own creative touch behind the camera, which is always the perfect combo.
Willa’s personality is the kind that just lights up a room. Her family described her as usually smiley and easygoing, and that couldn’t be more accurate. Want to see her grin? Just look at her. Want to melt completely? Ask her mom to sing her special song and watch her light up. She’s the kind of baby who makes photographing milestones feel like magic.
As for the cake smash… well, let’s just say Willa didn’t waste any time turning it into a full-on party. One second the cake was perched perfectly on the stand, and the next it was flying to the floor. From there, it got even messier (in the best way), and her aunt definitely left the session with icing-covered pants and a great story to tell. Honestly, those candid, chaotic, joy-filled moments are what make these sessions so fun.
This session wasn’t just about marking a year of growth—it was about celebrating Willa’s personality, the love that surrounds her, and the little everyday joys that make up this fleeting stage of life. I’m so grateful this family trusts me with their memories and brings such warmth and creativity to each session.
Happy first birthday, Willa! You are sweet, sassy, and so very loved.
